The Perfect Green
As of late, I've been fawning over this color that seems to be popping up everywhere. It is a slightly cool, almost dusty green that just makes me oh-so-happy. Before the thought of this color even popped into my head, my best buddy Bryan of House of Misters came up with the idea that we make our little nook off the living room into a “botanical library.” As you could guess, I completely loved this idea. We will definitely be doing a post on that later but in the meantime we are prepping the space by painting it this wonderful shade of green.
It also seems to be the perfect color as a backdrop for plants. This was obviously a very important characteristic when selecting paint colors in our house. Given that I am maybe too timid to paint an entire room this beautiful green (plus I have been wishing for bright, white walls for a while), we decided the best space to paint this color is the nook.
So what is this elusive green I have dedicated an entire post to? Well we started off our search at Sherwin Williams, grabbing a stack of probably 15 different options. We were able to narrow it down to 2 finalists. One for Owen, one for me. I won’t say whose was whose but maybe you all can guess.
The two colors in the running were SW 6459 Jadite and SW 0015 Gallery Green, with the latter of the two being from their Historic Colors collection. Ultimately, perhaps in a bit of a steamroll fashion after a friendly stand-off, we settled on Gallery Green!
After all that debate and coming to a decision, we discovered our contractors actually wanted to use Benjamin Moore rather than Sherwin-Williams. They said they could match the color code but we took that as an opportunity to reassess. We are glad we did because we ultimately decided Gallery Green might have been a touch too dark.
It’s number 635 from their Classic Color Collection. If you compare to some of the inspiration photos below, do you think our choice is a close match? We tried to stick to the same value but wanted to skew slightly lighter than the inspo photos. We'd love to hear what you all think in the comments below!
As an aside, beyond just matching some of the images we had seen floating out in the World Wide Web, we we’re pleasantly surprised when removing wallpaper from the first floor tenant apartment and discovered that the original plaster walls in the living room space happened to be this exact green! It was as if the house was telling us we needed this color in our lives.
Alas, we officially have a nook/future “botanical library” and a dining room feature wall with a punch of happy green. Now if only we can get the rest of the house together and this place buttoned up!
